Aberdeen Park Islington new extension

Aberdeen Park

Refurbishment, London, Islington

Refurbishment of a late Victorian detached house in North London arranged on four floors. The outline brief was to refurbish this six bedroom detached house and to replace the existing two-storey timber and glass extension that looked onto a large rear garden facing north

The existing extension was replaced with a new steel and glass extension on two floors. This extension acts as a ‘bridge’ between the internal space and the garden. The extension was partially installed with stained softwood shutters externally and steel framed mesh screens internally in order to provide a degree of privacy.

The existing wall between the kitchen, dining and living areas, and the stairwell was ‘punctured ‘ with full height glazed slots to filter the daylight entering the house through the facing south drawing room. This lower ground floor den was also visually connected to the kitchen at ground floor level above with glazed ‘floor patches’, which in themselves make a reference to the kitchen layout.
